BTEC (Level 1) Practical Engineering Skills

Designed for those students looking for a practical engineering experience, this course will allow learners to practise and develop a wide range of essential workshop skills.

This course is a fantastic foundation for students moving onto a post 16 vocational qualification or apprenticeship in a workshop based environment.

Here are just some of the skills you will have a chance to develop during this course:

  • MIG Welding
  • Manual Milling
  • Manual Turning
  • Fabrication and Bench fitting

What Can I Expect In Lessons?

You will receive constant support from the engineering teaching staff and technicians in our fully
equipped workshops, getting hands on engineering experience in order to develop the skills above. We
also use cutting edge technology to allow students to develop their skills, one example is our use of a virtual
welding system designed to get you up to a set standard before trying out the real thing.

*Please note that this course does not lead to the award of a GCSE equivalent qualification.

The Engineering Department Will:

  • Develop your practical skills
  • Allow you to be creative
  • Introduce you to new technologies
