Student inspired to support NARS after bicycle crash in woods
A TRAUMATIC accident has inspired a student to speak at a public event in support of the charity that helped convey him to hospital.
Daredevil Theo was enjoying the first day of the summer holidays mountain biking in a nearby woods when he went over the handlebars and fell, breaking his leg.
An ambulance could have taken up to two hours to reach him but volunteers at the Norfolk Accident Rescue Service (NARS) leapt into action, arriving in 25 minutes with much-needed pain relief that enabled them to move him from the floor and into the ambulance.
The Year 10 student says he was very glad to be taken to hospital. He said:
“They are trained medical staff and volunteer to help in situations like this. The location was probably difficult to access, and they also carry drugs that normal ambulances don’t which I needed to be moved out of the woods.”
After surgery and a long road to recovery, Theo is back doing what he loves best, even overcoming another challenge – public speaking.
“The charity asked me to do it and I didn’t really want to but I gave a short speech and am glad I did it. My mum also bought me a new and better bike so there were some positives.”
