STUDENTS at a Suffolk school have enjoyed an educational trip to the school’s first-class engineering department.

A mix of 30 boys and girls from Benjamin Britten Academy in Lowestoft attended in November and enjoyed a tour, workshop and talk by an industry expert.

The eager cohort were impressed by the extensive range of industry standard facilities and took part in a workshop designed by the school’s Head of Engineering, Mr Whitelam.

Working in small teams they enjoyed connecting wind turbine models to voltage  systems while experimenting with different blades. Paul Ward of PPI Engineering gave a brilliant talk on his career journey which inspired the group.

Marketing and Outreach Co-ordinator Izzy Lerpiniere says the event was important as it reached new students who are  interested in STEM subjects.

She said: “It’s vital we reach all areas of Norfolk and Suffolk so we can offer prospective students an insight into our excellent provision and help them decide where to study – hopefully we will see them study here.

“We are grateful to Paul who gave up his  time to talk about his career journey and his contribution underlines why the relationship with our employers is so important – it is a huge part of what we do here.”
