ALUMNUS Alex has urged current students to consider a degree apprenticeship after completing his first year at Aviva.

He left the school in 2022 after completing A Levels to take up a level 6 engineering as well as job progression while getting paid.

For me it’s a no brainier, particularly now with the sky-high university fees and cost of living crisis. The students are in the right place here at UTCN because they have incredible outreach to employers. The network is incredible.

Alex returned to the school this term with Aviva to talk to students at our careers fair.

He added: “I came to this career fair two years ago as a student and Aviva were here. Now I’m on the other side, talking to students about their own career options. placement as a software engineer.

Alex, works on the functionality of the company’s website, helping to improve customer experience for users. He has learned coding and other technical skills; all the time earning a degree and getting paid. His starting salary was £20,500.

Alex said: “For any students thinking of taking up an apprenticeship, I would say, ‘Go for it’. For me it has been a great decision. “I didn’t know how to code before I started here. I’m learning new skills, getting a degree “If it wasn’t for these types of events, which UTCN do so well, I might not have taken the path I am on. It’s a great school and events like this really prove it.”
