Aspiring engineers go behind the scenes at RAF Marham

Aspiring engineers from a school in Norwich were taken behind the scenes at RAF Marham.

The 30 University Technical College Norfolk (UTCN) students learnt about operations, future developments - including preparing for the arrival of the F35 Lightning stealth fighter - and opportunities for school leavers.

Home to 8pc of the entire Royal Air Force, RAF Marham is one of the largest employers in Norfolk.

Lucy Coubrough, year 12 UTCN student, said: 'I enjoyed seeing how engineering is being applied and how engineering apprentices have achieved so much and specialised in so many areas. We got to see and touch some of the equipment and armoury that is used, and had engineering designs and concepts explained for complex systems.'

The students were given a tour covering 6.5 miles of the base, and spoke with RAF Tornado engineer, and were given guided tours of the aircraft.
