Kody

Wind Turbine Technician Apprentice with RWE

Kody joined UTCN in Year 10 and decided to stay until Year 13 to complete the T-level Engineering (Mechatronics) course.

What did you like about UTCN?

I liked that they had a wide range of different machines and equipment, which helped me further develop my knowledge and skills.

Why did you apply for your apprenticeship?

I applied for my apprenticeship because I have always been interested in working offshore, either on an oil rig or with wind turbines. After completing five weeks of work experience at a wind farm (EA1) in Year 12, my passion for this career path grew even stronger.

What do you do in your apprenticeship/degree/employment?

At the moment, I am studying a Level 3 BTEC in Mechatronics at college, a qualification I already have. However, I was always told that sometimes, to take a step forward, you have to take a step back. I will also be going offshore and visiting sites during half-term breaks to further develop my skills and gain real-world experience as a Wind Turbine Technician.

What advice would you give current UTCN students?

My advice to current UTCN students is to keep striving for what they want to do in life and to get the most out of school and college while they can.
