Quality Lead at Horizon Wiring

Why did you choose UTCN?

After high school, I knew I wanted to pursue a career in STEM, but I wasn’t sure about the exact path or industry. I wanted to find a place that could offer both opportunities and guidance, and UTCN seemed like the perfect fit to help me figure it out.

What did you like about UTCN?

From my first visit, I was impressed by the facilities and the layout, which created a really collaborative atmosphere. The teachers were incredibly passionate and knowledgeable, not just about the subjects themselves, but also about how these subjects apply in various industries.

Why did you apply for your training programme?

After meeting the company and participating in interview skills and industry engagement evenings, I discovered a path into the Motorsport Electronics industry. It was a great way to apply the skills I’d gained at UTCN in a field I’ve been passionate about my whole life.

What do you do in your job?

I’m the Quality Lead at Horizon Wiring, where we create electrical assemblies for motorsport and marine racing teams. I manage the quality control team to ensure our products meet strict industry and company standards. I also oversee documentation, programming for quality work, and testing equipment, working closely with both management and workshop teams to continually improve quality across the business.

What advice would you give current UTCN students?

One of the biggest advantages of UTCN is the opportunity to interact with businesses. The connections I made during my time there gave me direction in life, so I’d say take full advantage of those opportunities. Before UTCN, I rarely felt comfortable stepping outside my schoolwork to pursue other goals, but if you’re eager to achieve, the staff at UTCN are always there to support you.

This kind of support is rare – make sure you harness it and make the most of it.
