Why did you come to UTCN?

I came to UTCN as I wanted to study engineering at a specialist college which had all of the relevant tools and materials required to gain the highest grade of learning which other colleges couldn't offer me such at the HAAS CNC machines and Greenpower projects.

What did you like about UTCN?
 

I really enjoyed all of the different employer engagement opportunities that UTCN offered me. I liked the fact there was such a variety of employers that came into the college and offered different real world projects such as the Anglia Water Challenge and the Aviva Hackathon.

Why did you apply for your apprenticeship​

I applied for my apprenticeship with 1st Class Fire Protection because I wanted a fast paced environment on the tools where I got to work in various places around Norfolk and the surrounding area and wasn't stuck in the same place of work every day.

What do you do in your job?

I was an apprentice Fire and Security Alarm engineer. Recently, since passing my apprenticeship, I have gained a promotion into the office working as a Project Manager and a Sales Executive for the company.

What advice would you give current UTCN students?

The advice I would give new students is to take every opportunity that UTCN offers you. Especially when given the chance to work with employers. This could provide you with potential job opportunities down the line and will also look great on your CV. Make sure that you also stay up to date on LinkedIn and also connect with any employer that you have engaged with when studying at UTCN as this could provide an opportunity such as work experience.​
