Marcus

Senior Accountant at Larking Gowen

Marcus was part of the first ever cohort at UTCN. He completed his GCSEs with us.

Why did you come to UTCN?

I came to UTCN because the teaching around my area wasn’t the best standard and knew that with UTCN opening there would be great staff recruited, therefore making it a great school to complete my GCSE’s.

What did you like about UTCN?

I mostly enjoyed the school being new and therefore very modernised, this gave me great opportunities to learn skills I had not seen before. Further to that the teachers were great, you could tell they were invested and came to the school to make a change.

How did you secure your apprenticeship?

UTCN offered some great subjects at GCSE like business, which gave me great insight into what I wanted to do in the future. With that in mind, I did my A levels to focus on an accountancy career at a more local college, which led me an apprenticeship afterwards.

What do you do in your job?

I am an accountant who looks after a portfolio of small business and individuals, advising them on various tax matters. Included in my role is networking with other business and schools, which benefits me and my company for the future.

What advice would you give current UTCN students?

My advice would be to take every opportunity you are given and that means not holding yourself back on being the one to go for it. I also would advise students to put in the hard work now, as it will make it easier for your future.
