Why did you come to UTCN?

I came to UTCN because I wanted to pursue my love of engineering. When I heard that there was school in Norfolk that could provide me with the skills and resources to grow my passion I applied almost immediately.

What did you like about UTCN?

One thing that always stood out to me about UTCN, was that professionalism was always paramount. Through this you built respect with those around you as everyone is always striving to impress, whether it be in class or to companies. Everyone knew the standards were set high and it was fantastic motivation

Why did you apply for your role?

Firstly I was actually approached by a recruiter who got in contact with me on behalf of Quentor, the company I now work for. After researching further into the company and what the role entails, I found it fitted my interests in design well and decided to persue it further.

What do you do in your role?

My role is as a design engineer, I create custom transport cases for a broad range of companies from the automotive sector to military, aerospace and even space. The level of detail in the cases is wide, from simple empty cases to custom cases with foam fitouts to fit the shape of intricate components.

What advice would I give current UTCN students?

My advice is to go out of your comfort zone, strive to discover new companies and build connections and relationships with ones you are familiar with aswell. It's important you keep putting yourself out there because even though some companies may not be interested in you there will be many out there that will be and you may have never heard of them. To summarise I'd say the most important things are too have confidence and take chances and keep growing your passion. Whatever it may be there will be a place for it in the many many industries that engineering encompasses!
