Student selection process
Students have been selected for additional support on the following basis:
1 All post-16 students with a Level 4 in English and/or Maths or lower at GCSE.
2 Baseline assessments at the beginning of the academic year to identify students who, from within the Level 4 and below group, need further support. With the difficulty in administering student grades at the end of last year, these assessments give teachers an opportunity to fully understand students’ needs and therefore identify the correct students for the programmes in place.
Additional support is offered through a tutoring organisation, YipiYap.
Students that have been selected will have either small group or 1:1 tuition sessions in English and/or Mathematics. Some students may also attend retake Maths and English classes. Where small group tuition is offered, two to four students will be in each group.
Sessions are held during students’ private study periods and in lessons. Private study support will assist the student with recapping the learning from the previous lessons and completing tasks that have been set for them to work on independently.
Tutors also work with selected students during their lessons. The tutor will work in the classroom with a small group of students, supporting them with the tasks set by the teacher.
