As part of our SMSC (Spiritual, Moral, Social and Cultural development) provision we recently had a visit from the Dementia Friends association.
They spoke to students in year 10 and 11 about the challenges a dementia sufferer faces and what day to day life can be like. They also explained to students the importance of being aware of the needs of someone suffering from dementia and how they can help if they encounter somebody struggling within their community; such as helping somebody struggling in a shop or at the bus stop.
Students were asked to make a pledge of a simple step they could take to make society a more dementia friendly place. We will be continuing to develop our SMSC provision this year so watch this space for more updates; such as our Link to hope Christmas shoe box appeal.
