Joining us in September? - Year 12

Thank you for accepting a place at UTCN for this September. We look forward to you joining us! In the meanwhile, there are a few items of information which I hope you will find useful:

1. Induction Day – for students

We will be holding an Induction Day for all new Year 12 students on Tuesday, July 11. It is important that you attend this if at all possible. The purpose of this day is to familiarise students with travel to UTCN, the UTCN site layout, curriculum and expectations. The day will start at 10.00am and will finish by 2.30pm. During the day, students will take part in activities relevant to their chosen courses and confirm their options. Students should wear smart business dress for this day and lunch will be provided.

Please email us on to confirm your attendance.

2. New Parents’ Information Evening

On Tuesday, July 11 at 6.30pm we will be holding an information evening for parents/carers of Year 12 students. This event is aimed at parents/carers and students do not need to attend. During this meeting, UTCN systems and procedures will be explained and parents will have the opportunity to meet key staff.

3. Summer Work Pack

To help you prepare for your post-16 studies, we have put together a Summer Work Pack. This will help you gently prepare for Year 12. These packs are personalised and will be issued to you on July 11. If you cannot attend then, they will be posted out to you.

4. KLM Challenge Day

We are running an event on Friday, July 14 to give a flavour of the Core Projects that Year 12s participate in every week. It is not compulsory to attend this event, however, please come along if you are interested. In this challenge you will work in a small team to solve an engineering problem set by an employer. In this case KLM will be setting the challenge. This is a great way to find out more about the world of aviation and engineering. This event will run from 10am at UTCN. If you are interested please see the website for more information.

5. Enrolment

All new Year 12 students have been made conditional offers subject to achieving certain GCSE results. When GCSE results are published on Thursday, August 24, students should come to UTCN to confirm their place. Enrolment will take place from 11.00am to 3.00pm on Thursday, August 24 and Friday, August 25. It is important that students bring their current school’s printed results notification with them to enrolment.

6. Admission Form and Home School Agreement

We have received most of these, but if you have not already completed these forms, please complete them and return them to us as soon as possible.

7. Business Dress

A list of PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) and the dress code for Sixth Form students can be found here. Students can try on and order PPE at the Induction Day on July 11. We strongly advise that orders are completed on this day to ensure that PPE is delivered on time. Orders will be available for collection from UTCN on the following dates:

  • Thursday, August 24 – 12:00 – 15:00
  • Friday, August 25 – 10:00 – 15:00
  • Monday, September 4 – 10:00 – 15:00
  • Tuesday, September 5 – 10:00 – 15:00

As well as PPE, reasonably priced suits and other business dress will be available to purchase. If you have any queries about PPE, please contact V&J Knitwear on 01553 772563 or

8. Travel

First Buses will shortly announce the bus timetable for the UTCN contract bus. We anticipate that this will operate at the same, or similar times, to the current service which can be found here. This service allows students to travel from Norwich Rail Station and Norwich Bus Station to UTCN.

Bus passes for the UTCN contract bus will be available to purchase from the first day of the academic year in September. Details on how to purchase bus passes will be advertised shortly.

9. SEN

If you have an identified Special Educational Need, have a medical condition or feel that you will need extra support in lessons, it is important that you make contact with our SENDCO, Mr Beckett via email on

10. Options

Most students chose their KS5 options at interview and these will be checked – and confirmed -at the Induction Day.

11. Term dates

These are available on our website here. Parents and students should note that Wednesday, September 6 is the first date of term for new students.

We look forward to seeing you soon, but in the meantime, if you have any queries, please contact Mary Toddington on  01603 580280 or contact us via email at
