If you would like to join us in September 2020 please click on the button at the top of this page. Once we recieve your application we will invite you to a pre-admission meeting. At this meeting we will discuss you interest in UTCN and your future career plans and interests. If UTCN is a suitable option for you we will make you a written offer.
Acceptance - if you decide to accept our offer, you have a place with us. As the year progresses you will be invited to the following events:
1. Induction Day – for students
We will be holding an Induction Day for all new Year 10 students on Tuesday, July 7. It is important that students attend this if at all possible. The purpose of this day is to familiarise students with travel to UTCN, the UTCN site layout, curriculum and expectations and to start to make new friends. The day will start at 9.00am and will finish at 3.00pm. During the day, students will take part in Engineering activities and participate in some exercises to help us with setting for September. All stationery and equipment will be provided. Normal uniform should be worn for the day and lunch will be provided free of charge. Snacks and drinks will also be available to purchase. UTCN school uniform will also be available to try on and purchase from 3.00pm.
The UTCN contract buses will be running in the morning and the afternoon and we recommend students familiarise themselves with this service if they plan to use it in September. The timetable for these buses can be found on our website under ‘Travel’. A UTCN member of staff will be available on St Stephens to point students in the right direction. On production of this letter, travel on the bus services marked as ‘contract’ and the number 37 and 38 buses will be free.
You will be sent a QR code to scan to confirm your attendance on the day. Please note that you will book a ticket, but this is not needed on the day as we will sign you in when you get here. This event is for students only.
2. New Parents’ Information Evening
On Thursday, July 9 from 5pm, with formal presentation at 5:30pm, we will be holding an information evening for parents/carers of new Year 10 students. This event is aimed at parents/carers and students do not need to attend. During this meeting, UTCN systems and procedures will be explained and parents will have the opportunity to meet key staff including Form Tutors. We will also be completing an information check to ensure we have correct contact information and all paperwork including the Home School Agreement have been completed.
School uniform and English Literature GCSE texts will also be available to purchase or order.
3. Personal Information
Now that your son or daughter has been formally accepted by us, we need to gather their personal information. Instead of on paper you will see that extra questions have now appeared on our application portal. https://utcn.applicaa.com
Please complete the personal details sections on our online portal by April 30, 2020.
4. Summer Work Pack
To help your son/daughter prepare for their studies at UTCN, we have put together a Summer Work Pack. This will help them gently prepare for Year 10. This pack will be issued to students on July 7.
In August First Buses will announce the bus timetable for September 2020 for the UTCN contract buses, this will be published on the school website. We anticipate that this will operate at the same, or similar times, to the current service. This service allows students to travel from Norwich Rail Station, Castle Meadow or St. Stephens to UTCN.
Bus passes for the UTCN contract bus will be available to purchase from the first day of the academic year in September. The pass is available through the ‘First Bus App’ but must be purchased directly from UTCN. Once payment has been made a code will be issued to activate the pass as an ‘M Ticket’, further details on how to purchase bus passes will be provided at the July Induction events.
The uniform list is available on the school website under ‘Joining Us’. Many parents have asked if students could try on samples of the uniform prior to purchasing and, therefore our suppliers, V&J Knitwear will be available from 3pm on the Induction Day, July 7, for students to try on uniform and to place orders and again on July 9 from 3.00pm. We strongly advise that orders are completed on one of these days to ensure that uniform is delivered on time.
Orders will be available for collection from UTCN on the following dates:
- Thursday, August 20 – 12:00 – 15:00
- Friday, August 21 – 10:00 – 14:00
- Wednesday, September 2 – 10:00 – 15:00
- Thursday, September 3 – 10:00 – 15:00
If you have any queries about uniform, please contact V&J Knitwear on 01553 772563 or firstname.lastname@example.org
If your son/daughter has an identified Special Educational Need, has a medical condition or you feel that they will need extra support in lessons, it is important that you make contact with our SENDCO, Mrs Jarvis via email on email@example.com
Most students chose their KS4 options at their pre-admission meeting and these will be checked and confirmed at the Induction Day with your son/daughter.
9. Term dates
These are available on our website. Parents and students should note that Friday, September 4 is the first date of term for new students.
10. Student Recruitment
We are now fully subscribed for Year 10 entry in September 2020 and we are placing all new applicants on a waiting list for places. We very much hope that your son/daughter will be able to start with us in September, however, if for any reason you no longer wish your child to take up their place with us, we would be grateful to hear from you at the earliest opportunity so that we can give your child’s place to one of the students on our waiting list.
We look forward to seeing you soon, but in the meantime, if you have any queries, please contact the Admissions team on 01603 580280 or contact us via email at firstname.lastname@example.org
