Joining us in September 2019? - Year 10

If you would like to join us in September 2019 please click on the button at the top of this page.  Once we recieve your application we will invite you to a pre-admission meeting.  At this meeting we will discuss you interest in UTCN and your future career plans and interests.  If UTCN is a suitable option for you we will make you a written offer.

1. Acceptance - if you decide to accept our offer, you have a place with us.  As the year progresses you will be invited to the  following events:

2. Induction Day – for students

We will be holding an Induction Day for all new Year 10 students on Tuesday, July 9. It is important that students attend this if at all possible. The purpose of this day is to familiarise students with travel to UTCN, the UTCN site layout, curriculum and expectations and to start to make new friends. The day will start at 9.00am and will finish at 3.00pm. During the day, students will take part in Engineering activities and participate in some exercises to help us with setting for September. All stationery and equipment will be provided. Normal uniform should be worn for the day and lunch will be provided free of charge. Snacks and drinks will also be available to purchase. UTCN school uniform will also be available to try on and purchase from 3.00pm.

The UTCN contract buses will be running in the morning and the afternoon and we recommend students familiarise themselves with this service if they plan to use it in September. The timetable for these buses can be found on our website under ‘Travel’. A UTCN member of staff will be available on St Stephens to point students in the right direction. On production of this letter, travel on the bus services marked as ‘contract’ and the number 37 and 38 buses will be free.

Please email us on admissions@utcn.org.uk to confirm the attendance of your son/daughter.

3. New Parents’ Information Evening

On Thursday, July 11 at 6:30pm, we will be holding an information evening for parents/carers of Year 10 students. This event is aimed at parents/carers and students do not need to attend. During this meeting, UTCN systems and procedures will be explained and parents will have the opportunity to meet key staff.  School uniform and English Literature GCSE texts will also be available to purchase or order.

4. Summer Work Pack

To help your son/daughter prepare for their studies at UTCN, we have put together a Summer Work Pack. This will help them gently prepare for Year 10. This pack will be issued to students on July 9.

5. Admission Form and Home School Agreement

If you have not already completed these forms, please complete them and return them to us as soon as possible.

6. Uniform

Many parents have asked if they could try on samples of the uniform prior to purchasing and, therefore our suppliers, V&J Knitwear will be available from 3pm on Induction Day for students to try on uniform and to place orders and on July 11 from 3.00pm. We strongly advise that orders are completed on this day to ensure that uniform is delivered on time. Orders will be available for collection from UTCN on the following dates:

  • Thursday, August 22                     – 12:00 – 15:00
  • Friday, August 23                          – 10:00 – 15:00
  • Monday, September 2                   – 10:00 – 15:00
  • Tuesday, September 3                  – 10:00 – 15:00

If you have any queries about uniform, please contact V&J Knitwear on 01553 772563 or schoolwear@vj-knitwear.co.uk

7. Travel

First Buses will shortly announce the bus timetable for September 2019 for the UTCN contract buses. We anticipate that this will operate at the same, or similar times, to the current service. This service allows students to travel from Norwich Rail Station, Castle Meadow or St. Stephens to UTCN.

Bus passes for the UTCN contract bus will be available from the first day of the academic year in September. Details on how to purchase bus passes will be provided at the July Induction events.

8. SEN

If your son/daughter has an identified Special Educational Need, has a medical condition or you feel that they will need extra support in lessons, it is important that you make contact with our SENDCO, Mr Beckett via email on michael.beckett@utcn.org.uk

9. Options

Most students chose their KS4 options at interview and these will be checked and confirmed at the Induction Day with your son/daughter.

11. Term dates

These are available on our website here. Parents and students should note that Wednesday, September 4 is the first date of term for new students.

We look forward to seeing you soon, but in the meantime, if you have any queries, please contact Mary Toddington on  01603 580280 or contact us via email at admissions@utcn.org.uk
