A Level English.
Core Curriculum A Level English.

As expected, the English Language and Literature A Level combines and develops the skills learnt across the two related English GCSES

Students will study familiar authors such as Shakespeare and Robert Browning, as well as being introduced to new and challenging texts such as Margaret Atwood’s The Handmaid’s Tale. The English Language focus of the specification encourages students to engage with the construction of texts and their language, relating their content to context and genre.

The course is assessed across two exams (80%) and one non-exam assessment (20%).

What You Can
Expect To Learn.
As a core subject, English develops skills that are transferable across the curriculum. There is a strong focus on developing close reading skills and writing fluently and accurately. Students will be expected to ask questions and suggest their ideas about the texts studied, and to extend their reading at home.
